3 Signs on Your Legs You Should Never Ignore

Your legs can be an early warning system for the rest of your body. Dr. Amr Elyamany describes three signs that deserve a doctor's visit, and one more that is worth knowing.
The three signs
- Swelling in the feet and legs: it can be a sign of a problem in the heart, the liver or the kidneys.
- Severe pain in the ankle: sometimes due to vitamin deficiencies, a high uric acid level or gout.
- Numbness or tingling in the legs: it can be a low vitamin B12 level or inflammation of the peripheral nerves caused by diabetes.
One more clue: cold feet
Constantly cold feet usually point to weak circulation or to anaemia.
What to do
Do not dismiss any of these. Book a check-up: a simple examination and a few blood tests can tell whether the cause is in the legs themselves or elsewhere.
Key takeaway: Your body is talking to you, and you need to listen to it.
When to see a doctor
- Swelling in both feet or legs, especially with breathlessness
- A red, hot, severely painful joint
